Blanton’s Single Barrel Red Takara – Japan’s Cult Bourbon
The Story Behind the Liquid
Born from Buffalo Trace’s 1984 deal with Takara Shuzo, this 93 proof whiskey was made just for Japan’s luxury buyers. It uses Buffalo Trace’s high-rye mash bill with 70% corn, 20% rye, and 10% malted barley. The spirit is distilled in traditional copper pot stills and aged 6 to 8 years on the top floors of Warehouse H. Seasonal changes in Kentucky push the bourbon into charred oak barrels, drawing out vanilla, orange, and leather notes that Japanese enthusiasts favor.

The warehouse’s changing temperatures give this bourbon a smooth, well-balanced taste. It became a favorite among Tokyo’s whisky fans.

This one surprised me—in a good way. It’s lighter than expected but full of character, with a nice balance of sweetness and spice.
Eric Benson –
If you enjoy a smoother bourbon with less heat, this is a great choice. It’s mellow, slightly sweet, and incredibly easy to drink.
