It’s a delicately-balanced nose with floral notes, magnolia, citrus, vanilla, leather, cocoa, and spice, balanced by a brown-sugar sweetness, caramel, and a touch of tropical fruit. Caramel and toffee are on the palate with the tropical sweetness developing into banana, mango, and coconut notes with a nutty undercurrent. Finishes long and drying with a touch of anise.

Old Forester 2020 Birthday Bourbon

Old Forester is set to release the 20th edition of its limited-run, vintage-dated Birthday Bourbon on Wednesday, September 2, in honor of founder George Garvin Brown’s birthday. This year marks the 150th anniversary of the company he started back in 1870.

The 2020 Birthday Bourbon is bottled at 98 proof, crafted from 95 barrels that were aged for 10 years. These barrels were filled on June 5, 2010. During tasting, the 10-year-old barrels showed a unique character, making them the clear choice for this year’s release. The entire batch equals just one day’s worth of Old Forester production.

Aroma

On the nose, this bourbon offers a delicate mix of white flowers, magnolia, and citrus. It’s spiced with vanilla, smooth leather, and cocoa powder. Reminders of brown sugar, white chocolate shavings, caramel, and tropical fruit balance the spice notes.

Taste

Tasting reveals caramel and crunchy toffee first. The tropical flavors emerge as banana, mango, coconut, and macadamia nuts.
