About Stagg Jr. Barrel Proof Bourbon (Batch 7)
Initially criticized for being too “alcohol forward,” Stagg Jr. has gained recognition as a carefully made barrel-strength bourbon. In fall 2016, Buffalo Trace released its seventh batch of Stagg Jr., bottled at 130 proof. It offers the rich, layered flavors expected from a strong bourbon straight from the barrel. Uncut and unfiltered, this bourbon ages almost ten years and reflects the bold personality of Mr. George T. Stagg himself.
Master Distiller Harlen Wheatley describes its flavor as “rich, sweet, with chocolate and brown sugar notes balanced by a spicy rye kick. The long finish hints at cherries, cloves, and smokiness.” This batch earned a Silver Outstanding Medal at the International Wine & Spirits Competition and a Gold Medal at the International Spirits Challenge.

About Stagg Jr.
Buffalo Trace Distillery is located on the Kentucky River in Frankfort, Kentucky. Its name comes from an old path used by migrating buffalo. Native Americans knew the trail, and early settlers followed it to the West after crossing the Ohio River.
Buffalo Trace is the oldest distillery in the U.S. that runs continuously. It has a history tied to famous master distillers like E.H. Taylor, Jr., George T. Stagg, Albert B. Blanton, Orville Schupp, and Elmer T. Lee. Today, it remains family-owned, sitting on 130 acres by the Kentucky River. It has kept the same location for over 200 years.
The distillery makes many kinds of bourbon and whiskey. Its collections include Antique, O.F.C. Vintages, Van Winkle, and E.H. Taylor. Their Stagg Jr. bottles are limited editions of barrel-proof bourbon, similar to the George T. Stagg in the Buffalo Trace Antique Collection.
George T. Stagg built one of the strongest American distilleries in the 1800s. During the Gilded Age of bourbon, it became very famous. This bourbon is uncut, unfiltered, and aged nearly a decade, with a character that reflects Stagg himself.
Buffalo Trace first released Stagg Jr. in August 2013. Since then, they have made about two batches each year. Each batch contains bourbon aged about 8 to 9 years. It is then bottled at a high, distinct proof. Proof numbers tell which batch is which.
