Remus Repeal Reserve stands out with its rich history. George Remus, known as the “King of the Bootleggers,” thrived during Prohibition by exploiting loopholes in the Volstead Act to produce bourbon. Born in Germany in 1878, he moved to Chicago with his family in the 1880s. Working in his uncle’s pharmacy during his teens, he eventually owned it. This experience proved crucial during Prohibition, laying the foundation for his growing empire.
He transitioned into law, becoming a defense attorney and gaining vital skills. As Prohibition neared its end, he defended bootleggers while watching their wealth grow. When the Volstead Act was enforced, he found ways around it to keep his spirits flowing. His business grew, employing 3,000 workers and recruiting politicians. For a time, he lived lavishly, inspiring images of the Roaring Twenties luxury.
Bourbon is a true American spirit. While most is made in Kentucky, it can be produced across the country. It must contain at least 51% corn and be bottled at 40% ABV or higher. Give this classic American whiskey a try and taste its rich heritage.
