About Wild Turkey

After the Civil War, the Ripy Brothers returned to Kentucky and opened a small distillery on a hillside in Lawrenceburg. They operated steadily for nearly fifty years until the 18th Amendment ended alcohol sales in the U.S. During Prohibition, the distillery shut down but reopened after it was over. Then, a distillery executive, Thomas McCarthy, took whiskey samples during a turkey hunt with friends. The next year, his friends asked him to bring “some of that wild turkey whiskey” on their hunt. This gave the brand its name.

Today, the distillery is run by Master Distiller Jimmy Russell and his son Eddie Russell. Together, they have over 90 years of bourbon-making experience. Jimmy says, “I grew up in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky. It was a small town, but four bourbon distilleries operated here. Families worked at all of them. I always wanted to be part of this business. My grandfather, my father, me, and now my son — we’ve all worked in bourbon.”

About Bourbon

Few drinks are as American as bourbon. Most of it is made in Kentucky, but it can be produced anywhere in the U.S. It must contain at least 51% corn. It also needs to be bottled at 40% alcohol by volume or higher. It’s a true American classic worth trying.
